Assembly and Cleaning Questions:
“What kind of breastshield is included with Freestyle? Are there other options?”
Freestyle includes the SoftFit™ breastshields. Should a mom need a larger size shield, Medela’s entire line of PersonalFit™ shields are available.
“How do I clean my Freestyle parts?”
Prior to first use, disassemble and sanitize all parts that come into contact with the breast and the breastmilk: SoftFit breastshields, breastshield bodies, back caps, yellow membranes, bottles and lids. Sanitize in boiling water for 10 minutes. After each use, disassemble and wash all parts noted above in warm soapy water. Rinse in clear water, air dry on clean towel and cover parts when not in use.
Cleaning Tips: Make sure all parts are completely dry before reassembling. Consider using QuickClean™ Wipes or QuickClean™ Micro-Steam bags for convenient cleaning. The hands-free accessories can be cleaned by simply wiping them down with a damp cloth. The tubing does not need to be boiled.
“Are spare parts available for Freestyle?”
Yes. The Freestyle Spares Kit (#67061) is available and contains two sets of breastshield connectors. Medela also offers the entire line of PersonalFit™ breastshields, spare collection containers with lids and the Contoured Cooling Element at most retail locations. The 12-Volt Vehicle Lighter Adapter (#67153) is also available for moms who want the convenience of charging in the car. All other items, including the rechargeable battery and hands-free accessories are available only through Medela Customer Service at 800-435-8316. Part numbers are also listed in the instruction booklet.
“Why does Freestyle contain different tubing and breastshield assemblies than other Medela pumps?”
Freestyle is designed for mobility and as a result was designed with unique breastshield connectors, membranes and tubing solutions. These Freestyle parts are NOT for use with any other Medela product.
“Which breastmilk collection options work with Freestyle?”
Most Medela collection and feeding solutions work with the Freestyle pump. These include the 5 oz (150ml) bottles and the 80ml containers. Medela’s Pump & Save™ bags are not recommended for use with Freestyle.
