Freestyle FAQs

Battery Questions:

Question:

What kind of battery is included?

Answer:

The Freestyle includes a high-quality Lithium Ion battery.

Question:

How do I insert the battery?

Answer:

Open the battery compartment by sliding the back panel of the pump down and removing. When inserting the battery, make sure the “This side down” message on the battery is oriented down, toward the inside bottom of the battery compartment. The pull tab should be facing up, toward you, allowing for convenient removal should the battery need to be replaced. The pump will not operate off of battery if the battery is inserted improperly. When oriented properly the battery will easily slide into the battery compartment.

Question:

How long do I charge the battery before first use?

Answer:

Prior to first use, the battery needs to be inserted into the pump and should be charged for 24 hours. If necessary the pump can be used during this period with the power cord only. The pump will display the “bAtt” message while the pump is in the initial charging mode. For best results, allow the pump to initially charge uninterrupted for 24 hours. After the 24-hour initial charge, subsequent charges will take about four hours. You should not need to remove the battery unless replacing.

Question:

Does the pump charge if it is plugged in and in use?

Answer:

No. The pump will charge only when it’s plugged in and NOT in use. A typical charge will take four hours.

Question:

How long will the battery stay charged? How do I know I am running out of power?

Answer:

A fully charged battery will provide about three hours of pumping time. When turned on, the battery indicator on the display will show how much battery power is left. If the battery symbol starts to flash showing just one bar, there is only enough power left for approximately one 20-minute pumping session.

Question:

What should I do if my battery does not seem to be charging properly?

Answer:

If the battery charging symbol will not stop flashing it is likely the battery has been removed from the pump. Re-charge the pump for a full 24 hours and this will stop the battery symbol from continuing to flash. If your battery will not charge or provides inadequate power, contact Medela Customer Service for more information.
